ESLPodcast 45 - A Visit to the Doctor
Going to the doctor is never particularly pleasant for me. But I couldn't put it offany longer. It was time for my annual physical, and there was no getting around it. So I picked up the phone and called for an appointment. "I'd like to see Dr. Shimoya next week, please, if that's possible," I said. Of course, it wasn't possible. The doctor was booked until next month, the receptionist told me. "Okay," I said, "let's schedule it for next month.‚"

When the day arrives, I drive over to the doctor and check-in at the receptionist desk. I have to present my HMO card and pay the co-pay of $15.00. The receptionist instructs me to go to waiting room B, down the hall, first door on the right. So I go there and take a seat to wait. And wait. And wait. Finally, my name iscalled and I go into see the doctor. The nurse weighs me, takes my temperatureand blood pressure, and asks me why I'm there. I tell her it's time for my yearly check- up. She tells me to follow her to the examination room, and then to strip down to my underwear. Now I'm sitting on the exam table, half- freezing, waiting for the doctor to show up . Finally, he walks in, looks at my chart, and begins his examination. "Breathe," he says, as he places the stethoscope on my chest. "Breathe in and out slowly," he says. I do so. Then he checks my throat and has me lay down to check my abdomen. Finally, he orders a blood test and says, "Well, you're good for another year, Mr. McQuillan." Thank goodness, I think to myself, and get dressed to leave.

ESL Podcast 662 – Doctor-Patient Confidentiality
Dr. Green: Can I consult you on a case of medical ethics

Dr. Hause: Sure, I’m not a lawyer, but I can give you my opinion as another doctor.

Dr. Green: That’s what I’m looking for, your honest opinion. I have a patient who has a medical condition that can be spread to her family, but she doesn’t want to tell them about it. I don’t want to breach doctor-patient confidentiality, but I think that at least her husband should know.

Dr. Hause: That’s a tricky one. We both know that the only way we can get our patients to divulge any sensitive information is if they trust us. We can’t easilyput aside that confidentiality.

Dr. Green: I know, but if she doesn’t tell her family, then they are in danger of developing serious medical problems themselves. I took the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. How can I keep her secret and adhere to the spirit of that oath?

Dr. Hause: I see what you mean. If I were you, I’d sit my patient down and tell her what you think her responsibilities are to her family. Maybe you can convince her to tell them.

Dr. Green: I’ve tried talking to her already, and she didn’t want to listen. I’ll try again. But what if she doesn’t agree?

Dr. Hause: Then you can either drop it, tell her family, or...

Dr. Green: Or what?

Dr. Hause: Hope your patient has a miraculous recovery

Ling Cao, what a great start! How about the other 10 questions?
Ling Li, what a path blazer! Great work! For words where the noun exists, you could just use the noun rather than create a gerund, e.g. piano performance (not performing) and enjoyment (not enjoying). Also, the sentence about the museum seems to need a verb.
Bing, super work! The 3rd rule of etiquette should be, Do not applaud until the end of a piece, not at the end of each movement within a piece. A good way to know is to wait for the educated people to applaud first, LOLs, or people who seem educated! How did you get "violin and cello" in there?
Cheng, that's a good start. A little skimpy on the answers, though, as we had 10 questions. ... Oh wait, it's down below: that's a pretty good shot! Be sure to find out some of the answers from friends!
Gacia, "wearing good dress" may not be a rule for this free lunchtime concert. Something normal for downtown travel would be sufficient, as a rule. I hope the concert doesn't start as late as you reported! Great work!
Nice work, Angelica! Where's your 3rd rule of etiquette? Please tell Fottima to leave by 10 a.m. to be on time. There's usually a long line to get in, and that's why we need to get there early.
Emma, you nailed it! The most important rule is to keep quiet! Many think they can whisper or rustle their program sheets, and the result is irritating. Do check with your classmates about the concert details!
Olivia, you, too! Yeah, a classical concert is different from a buffet, where you can yak and jabber and whisper with impunity. If you leave Don Mills at 11:30, you'll be waiting outside the concert area until we finish as seating is limited. You should arrive around 11 a.m. so that you'll be among those in the front of the line.
Brilliant answers, Hamed! Good thinking, except for departure time from Don Mills. Do you think you could be ushered in and seated in time for the performance at 12 noon?
Ani, I'm so sorry your answer disappeared. It happens, sadly, when something goes wrong through human or technological error. Better results next time!
How about everybody find a place for lunch together so we can all be friends and get to know one another?

                 Geography of Toronto

The geography of the city of TorontoOntarioCanada, covers an area of 630 km2 (243 sq mi) and is bounded by Lake Ontario to the south, Etobicoke Creek and Highway 427 to the west, Steeles Avenue to the north, and Steeles Avenue to the north,. In addition to Etobicoke Creek and the Rouge River, the city is trisected by two minor rivers and their tributaries, the Humber River in the west end and the Don River east of downtown. Both flow southward to Lake Ontario at Humber Bay and Toronto Harbour respectively,  for large tracts of densely forested valleys with recreational trails which are part of the longerWaterfront. The concentration and protection of Toronto's ravines allows for large tracts of densely forested valleys with recreational trails within the city. Approximately 26–28% of Toronto is covered with over 10 million trees,[1] a fairly high percentage within a large city in North America and there are ambitious proposals to double the coverage.
